Magna Charta cum statutis tum antiquis tum recentibus ... London: Richard Tottell, 1576. This is another work of Richard Tottell, who printed more editions of Magna Carta than any other 16th-century printer. His life grant from Queen Elizabeth to print law books helped to secure his dominance of the market, and was responsible for his considerable wealth. At least three or more different hands can be identified in our copy of the book. At the bottom of the title page can be read the ownership inscription of one Richard Shapland, in particular, who crossed out the name of an earlier owner. The Library acquired this copy in 1931. |
