Visual Description

This is the back of an antique postcard filled with elegant, cursive handwriting in black ink. The left side is densely packed with a message written sideways signed by Karl. Two green French "Semeuse" (Sower) stamps, each valued at 5 centimes, are affixed to the top right corner over a circular postal cancellation mark from Paris dated November 17, 1911. The postcard is addressed to Ruby Darrow in Los Angeles, California.

Paris France November 16 1911. 41 rue Galilée (Hotel Galilée)
Dear Aunt: We are now established in the above locality—perhaps not established but very probably so. Far though it is true from the Sorbonne, when we go to the Latin quarter to inspect pensions [start strikethrough]marked[end strikethrough] advertised with "electricity, bathroom, vast (!) rooms, French “spoken at meals" (what they all say), we invariably conclude that better four daily trips in the Subway than a domicile in that region. Most of the buildings date from 1700 & the characteristics of all of them are those of 700 (A.D. or B.C.) Was the cathedral of the Sacré Coeur de Paris here when you were? It is a perpetual delight to me. There are certain boulevards in the city splendidly decorated by this great family of domes towering on its hill top at the end of the perspective. We received your notelet postmarked Nov. 1st. Always ravished to hear from you. — Karl.
