Attention: Miss Fisher
Gentlemen:

Under date of February 25, 1938,
we addressed a letter to Mr. Clarence S. Darrow,
of your firm, a copy of which is enclosed herewith,
concerning the release of one Kleoris from Joliet
Penitentiary and a fee of $2,500.00 paid therefor
by Mike Pappas and James Smith, our clients.

Our clients are very anxious to have
this matter cleared up, and we would, therefore,
appreciate your early response.

Very truly yours,

ARMSTRONG & SPANNON

Dear Sir:

COPY

We represent a group of Greek people who, on or about October 13,
1928 visited your office and consulted you with respect to the release
from Joliet penitentiary of one Kleoris, who was then and still
is serving time for a felony committed some years ago.

The people we represent inform us that, at that time, they collected
from a group of their countrymen the sum of $2,500.00 in cash, for the
purpose of defraying the expense of counsel fees in procuring the release
of the said Kleoris, and that, pursuant to that thought, executed
a check in the sum of $2,500.00, payable to your order, and drawn against
the First Englewood State Bank, and signed by Mike Pappas and James
Smith. The check in question was then accepted by your office and
deposited with the Amalgamated Trust & Savings Bank, and cleared on
October 16, 1928.

We are, also, informed that, at the time our clients visited your office
for consultation and the payment of the $2,500.00, they were acting as a
committee for the contributors of said sum, and that they were introduced
to your office by a Greek gentleman by the name of George P. Chiagouris,
then and now, we believe, engaged in the real estate brokerage business.

We are, also, informed that, notwithstanding the fact that the said
Kleoris is still in jail and has never been released and, apparently, no
effort has been made for his release, the sum of $2,500.00 has not been
returned.

Not knowing what disposition has been made of this matter and being
desirous of knowing the ultimate disposition of the $2,500.00, we will
appreciate it very much if you will be kind enough to give us all particulars at your disposal. The committee is being urged to take immediate
action, by the contributors, to repossess the $2,500.00 and then redistribute the same among them, since nothing has been done in behalf of
the said Kleoris.

Thanking you for any information you may give us, we are,
ARMSTRONG & SPANNON
