CHICAGO

August 25, 1931

Dear Mr. Stephenson

I would like to come down and see you but it takes all day and it is hard to spare the time. If there was something definite to be done I would go, but I can't see much more to do until the matter is disposed of.

Thank you for the kindness you express. No doubt you are overrating my powers, but I am very sincere in wanting to help you and feeling that your case was a very serious miscarriage of justice.

Can't you see the Hammond and Gary friends and have them see me?

Your friend

Clarence Darrow
