Dear Girl— This came to me at Christmas from a friend who has not discovered that I no longer do and dress as once upon a time— So—please adopt the feeling that I always have had for handmade Valenciennes— my favorite lace,—which—alas—we probably shall see no more of from poor war=riddled France.— So—sorry I shall not be there to see how pretty you and the collar will look together—
This combination of things for a sort of box-party when Father Frederick arrives to be entertained by—and with—you is no kind of a job for a bridal pair that Emily Post would tolerate—but all the same it is meant to indicate my earnest and loving attempt toward providing a bit of cheer for your holiday together—and you will agree that it turns out to be an assortment that wouldn't feel at home in a white kid box tied with rosettes of satin ribbon.
