Dedications

In April 1978, the building that would become Walter F. Mondale Hall was dedicated after two years of construction, marking a new era in the Law School’s history. The dedication ceremony brought together the Law School community and such illustrious figures as United States Vice President Walter F. Mondale (’56), and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Warren Burger, who were awarded honorary degrees. Mr. Mondale’s dedication speech emphasized the special commitment to professional responsibility fostered by the Law School, and the great need for lawyers devoted to public service and justice.

The Law School Building was rededicated as Walter F. Mondale Hall in 2001, in honor of the Law School’s great friend and graduate, who served as Vice President of the United States, United States Senator, U.S. Ambassador to Japan, as well as Minnesota Attorney General. Former President Jimmy Carter, other dignitaries, and the Law School community gathered to celebrate the event and Mr. Mondale’s involvement in the life of the Law School for over six decades.
