"Noted and Notable: Treasures of the Riesenfeld Rare Books Research Center,” invites viewers to consider the law books, letters, and other legal documents included here as physical artifacts that capture the histories of individual copies. From books whose unique bindings reflect the religious milieu in which they were read and interpreted, to annotations that capture a famous owner’s views on foreign affairs, the items displayed here are treasured in part due to the stories they can tell us about the past. This exhibit focuses on the bindings, illustrations, ownership marks and annotations which surround texts and give them greater historical meaning, transforming rare books into fascinating objects that are worthy of study.
“Noted and Notable: Treasures of the Riesenfeld Rare Books Research Center,” is curated by Ryan Greenwood, Ian Moret, and Patrick Graybill. We gratefully acknowledge the support of University of Minnesota Law School Dean Garry Jenkins and Associate Dean Joan Howland in the creation of this digital exhibit.
